OUR STORY

Msichana Empowerment Kuria provides a haven, build capacity, and support girls' development in Kuria since its formation. We began as an informal mentorship space for adolescent girls in 2013 by a young woman Ms, Natalie Tingo, then 19 years old. She hoped to give girls a chance to have access to education; having been born and raised, she experienced first-hand the challenges of being a girl, growing up "uncut" in the community, and a survivor of SGBV. Later, recognizing a more profound need to reach out to more girls, women, and the community as a whole evolved into what it is today; a non-profit community-based organization serving more than 300,000 community members in different initiatives.

Over the years, Msichana Empowerment Kuria has invested in empowering girls & young women. To claim their rights, enabling equitable access to services, resources, and opportunities, facilitating greater access to Rights, healthcare, education & improved livelihoods for the most vulnerable girls & young women. We support creating a critical mass at the community committing to social transformation to end all forms of violence against girls its underpinning root causes & consequences.
Msichana Empowerment Kuria's interventions deliberately address norms, attitudes, laws, policies, and practices that affect girls' safety and wellbeing in general. Additionally, we foster consistent engagement with different actors to apply a holistic approach to girls' empowerment.
